Use measurements instead of a letter
An M from one seller can differ from an M from another. Choose a garment that already fits you and measure it using the same method as the listing’s size table. Compare chest width, length, shoulder width and sleeve length for tops, or waist, rise and inseam for trousers.
Check how the table was measured
A laid-flat chest width is not the same as a full circumference. A stretched elastic waist is not the same as a relaxed waist. Confirm centimetres versus inches and note whether the table describes the body or the finished garment. One inch equals 2.54 centimetres.
Allow for the intended fit
Consider layering, fabric stretch and the fit of the reference garment. Do not automatically add or subtract a size across all products. If the seller gives a measurement tolerance, keep it in your comparison; if no tolerance is stated, ask rather than inventing one.
Request the measurement that decides the purchase
If sleeve length is the deciding factor, request that measurement rather than asking for a generic size recommendation. Check whether the platform can provide it before the return window closes. A visible size label alone does not confirm the garment dimensions.
Record the result
Add the selected size and the measurements you relied on to your shortlist. This makes later comparisons useful even when a listing changes.
